Wanda Garner Presidential Student Scholarship

In 2014, the AMATYC Presidential Student Scholarship was established to be given annually to a student majoring in mathematics or mathematics education. The initial scholarship was donated by then-president Nancy Sattler. Each affiliate was asked to nominate one student. A random drawing was then held to determine one student to be awarded a $1,000 scholarship. The first awardee, in 2015, was Randi Reed, nominated by the affiliate WAMATYC.

At the 2017 Fall Board Meeting, the AMATYC Executive Board renamed the scholarship in her honor. The following year her family endowed the scholarship with a generous donation to AMATYC.

Over the years, the requirements have changed to include students majoring in statistics and STEM fields, to require that they be full-time students during the spring semester prior to the award, and that individual faculty can nominate students. At times, two scholarships have been given in a year. Follow this link for the full list of Presidential Student Scholarship winners.
