Leadership Changes
AMATYC is supported by a cadre of volunteers who serve throughout the organization. During the past decade, many of these positions have been adjusted to meet the changing needs of the organization.
Committee and ANet Changes
AMATYC created Academic Committees as discussion groups for those with similar interests. During the Spring Board Meeting (SBM) 2015, the Department and Division Issues committee was split into four AMATYC Networks (ANets). At the SBM 2021, all academic committees and AMATYC Networks were reclassified as Academic Networks (ANets) so that all Chairs receive the same financial support.
- Adjunct Faculty Issues, Division/Department Leadership, International Mathematics, Math for Liberal Arts – created as AMATYC networks at the SBM 2015 (4/26/15). Math for Liberal Arts was renamed as Quantitative Reasoning ANet at Strategic Planning and Orientation (SPO) 2024.
- Mathematics Standards in the First Two Years of College – created as an ad hoc committee at the SBM 2017 with two leadership positions (Chair and Digital Coordinator). It became a standing committee at the Summer Conference Call (SCC) 2022 with one leadership position (Chair).
- Equity – AMATYC created this committee during the Fall Board Meeting (FBM) 2018.
- Pathways Joint Subcommittee (informal working group of several other committees) – established as the Mathematics Pathways ANet at the SPO 2022
- Committee on Mentoring and Research Experiences for Students and Faculty (CMRESF) – AMATYC created this committee at the FBM 2023.
- Statistics ANet and Data Science ANet – originally the Statistics ANet but was renamed to reflect the inclusion of data science in the focus of the ANet at the SBM 2023.
Professional Development Support Position Changes
This period saw several changes in support of AMATYC’s year-round professional development efforts beyond the AMATYC Annual Conference.

- Traveling Workshop Coordinator is vacant with no plans to fill it at this time.

- Website Coordinator’s term was changed from 2 years to 3 years at the FBM 2017.

- Online Community Assistant Coordinator replaced the Standards Digital Coordinator and the duties were updated.
Bylaw Changes
The AMATYC Bylaws were amended during the 2021 Delegate Assembly to change the composition of the Delegate Assembly. Previously the number of state/province delegates was determined by the number of two-year colleges within the state/province, and each affiliate had delegate(s), the number of which was based on the number of affiliate members who were also AMATYC members, in addition to the affiliate president (provided the affiliate president was a regular AMATYC member). Determining the number of two-year colleges in a state/province had become difficult, if not impossible, and several states had incorporated their two-year colleges into their university systems. This resulted in Article VII, Section 2. A. and B. being amended so that the number of state/province delegates were determined by the number of regular individual AMATYC members with preferred mailing addresses within a given state/province. Each affiliate now has one delegate in addition to their president (provided the affiliate president was a regular AMATYC member).
A second bylaws change was made at the 2021 Delegate Assembly. Due to the urging of AMATYC members and delegates at several previous Delegate Assemblies, the privileges of several membership types were changed with an AMATYC Bylaws amendment (Article III). The approved amendment moved adjunct and retired individual members to regular membership types, thus granting voting and participation rights to adjunct and retired members.
The AMATYC Bylaws were amended at the 2019 Delegate Assembly to allow hearings (forums) on proposed bylaws amendments to be held virtually no sooner than 20 days in advance of and at least one day before the Delegate Assembly. Policy already allowed position statement hearings/forums and the Delegate Assembly to occur virtually before or in conjunction with the AMATYC Annual Conference.
